What is Hypno-EMDR?

Calm on the outside, deep work within

Hypno-EMDR is an integrated trauma therapy that combines EMDR reprocessing with clinical hypnotherapy, using deep relaxation to help you access and work through distressing memories from a settled, safe state.

Negative feelings, thoughts and behaviours often stem from memories the mind has never fully processed. Left unresolved, those memories can keep shaping how you think, feel and react every day.

In a calm, focused state, you can reprocess those memories more comfortably, bringing relief from anxiety, PTSD, phobias and other trauma-based difficulties, at both the conscious and subconscious levels.

Hypnotherapy

Deep relaxation and a calm, safe nervous system

Hypno-EMDR

Gentler, more sustainable healing

The benefits of Hypno-EMDR

By working with both the emotional and the subconscious roots of distress, it offers gentle, lasting change.

Relief that builds

Many clients tell us they notice anxiety, flashbacks and intrusive thoughts easing within the first few sessions.

Deep relaxation & safety

Hypnotic calm settles your nervous system before reprocessing, making difficult memories easier to face.

Positive reframing

The relaxed state makes the mind more receptive to the new, healthier beliefs EMDR helps you form.

Broad applications

Used for PTSD, complex trauma, phobias, panic, stress, and pain or insomnia linked to past trauma.

Long-term resilience

By addressing emotional and subconscious roots, it builds durable coping skills and lasting stability.

How long does it take?

Structured, and never rushed

Many people notice significant improvements within around three to six sessions, particularly with single-event trauma or phobias. More complex experiences, such as childhood trauma or C-PTSD, usually need a longer course, often around eight to twelve sessions.

Whatever you are facing, your therapist designs a personalised plan around your goals, and we always move at your pace. We will be honest with you at the consultation about what is realistic rather than promising a timeline nobody can guarantee.

Common questions about Hypno-EMDR

How is Hypno-EMDR different from EMDR alone?

EMDR reprocesses distressing memories, while hypnotherapy brings deep relaxation and calm. Combining them means you can do the reprocessing work from a more settled, safe state, which many people find gentler.

Which one is right for me?

That depends on you rather than on which approach sounds better. If you feel steady enough to work directly with a memory, standard EMDR may be all you need. If the thought of approaching it at all feels overwhelming, the hypnotic element can make the first steps more manageable. We will talk it through at your free consultation and recommend honestly.

Is Hypno-EMDR safe?

Yes. It is delivered by trained, qualified therapists, and we always begin by helping you feel calm and stable before any reprocessing. You stay in control throughout, and we move entirely at your pace.

Do I have to relive the trauma in detail?

No. The focus is on reprocessing how a memory feels rather than reliving every detail, and the hypnotic relaxation is there to keep you comfortable as you do.

Will I lose control under hypnosis?

No. Hypnosis in a clinical setting is a state of focused relaxation, not sleep or surrender. You stay aware, you can speak, and you can stop at any point. It is nothing like stage hypnosis.

Are your therapists trained in both?

Hypno-EMDR at OLIP Therapy is delivered only by therapists trained in both EMDR and clinical hypnotherapy, fully insured and working under regular clinical supervision. If you would like to see your therapist's training before booking, just ask.

How many sessions will I need?

Often around three to six for single-event trauma or phobias, and longer, frequently eight to twelve, for more complex trauma. We will talk through what is realistic for you.

Can Hypno-EMDR be done online?

Yes. We offer secure online Hypno-EMDR across the UK, which many people find works very well from the comfort and safety of home.
