You are not imagining it, and you are not alone
Tinnitus is the perception of sound when no outside sound is present. It can take the form of ringing, hissing, whistling, buzzing or whooshing, in one ear or both, and it can come and go or stay constant. It is very common, and for some people it can significantly affect daily life.
Tinnitus is very real, not imagined, and it often feels worse at night when the day's distractions fade. Its exact cause is frequently unknown, but stress, anxiety and fatigue are closely linked to how intense and distressing it feels.
Please see your GP or an audiologist first: because tinnitus can have underlying medical causes, it is important to have it checked, especially if it is new, in one ear only, or comes with hearing loss or dizziness. Our therapy eases the distress and works alongside medical care, not instead of it.
Easing the distress, not the ears alone
Hypnotherapy does not claim to remove the sound, but it can be a valuable complementary approach for the emotional side of tinnitus. Through deep relaxation and working with the subconscious, many people find its grip on their day begins to loosen.
- Shifts your focus, so the sound takes up less space in your awareness
- Calms anxiety and stress, which often make tinnitus feel more intense
- Supports better sleep, easing the deep relaxation that restful nights need
How tinnitus can affect daily life
Tinnitus is rarely just about sound. Its effects can ripple through sleep, mood and daily life, which is exactly where supportive therapy can help.
Sleep & concentration
The constant noise can disrupt sleep and make focus harder, leading to fatigue and irritability. Therapy helps you rest and settle more easily.
Mood & anxiety
Tinnitus can trigger anxiety, low mood and feelings of helplessness. Support eases that emotional weight and builds coping tools.
Social life
Frustration or embarrassment can lead to withdrawing from things you once enjoyed. We help you feel more confident and connected again.
Reclaim calm and quality of life
You do not have to let tinnitus rule your days. By easing the stress, fear and frustration that so often surround it, therapy helps many people feel more in control, more settled, and more themselves again.
Whenever you feel ready, we are here to help you find that calmer place.
Questions you may have
Can hypnotherapy cure my tinnitus?
No, and we would never promise that. Hypnotherapy does not remove the sound, but it can help ease the distress, anxiety and sleep problems that often come with tinnitus, so it feels more manageable. It works best alongside medical care.
Should I see my GP or an audiologist too?
Yes, we strongly recommend it, especially if your tinnitus is new, in one ear only, or comes with hearing loss or dizziness. A GP or audiologist can check for any underlying causes, and our therapy then supports the emotional side alongside that care.
Can it help me sleep?
Many people find it can. Tinnitus often feels worse at night, and hypnotherapy's deep relaxation can make it easier to unwind and drift off, easing the cycle of poor sleep and heightened distress.
I have had tinnitus for years. Can therapy still help?
Yes. It is never too late to work on how tinnitus affects you. Support can help ease long-standing distress and build coping strategies, whatever stage you are at.
Is support available online?
Yes. We offer sessions in person at our Hampshire practices and online across the UK, so you can take part from the comfort of home.
Is it confidential?
Yes. Your sessions are private and treated with the strictest confidence, giving you a safe, calm space to work at your own pace.
